Laminex x State of Kin
This collaboration with Laminex explores the expressive potential of their True to Nature: Next Generation Woodgrains within a sculptural boardroom concept for a medium-sized design studio.
Conceived as the heart of a creative practice, the boardroom was approached as more than a functional meeting space. Instead, it became an opportunity to explore how materiality, form and atmosphere can support collaboration, creativity and a strong sense of place. Inspired by the Australian landscape, the design balances warmth and depth with restraint and precision.
Two hero finishes - Spotted Gum TrueScale™ and Tasmanian Oak TrueScale™ in AbsoluteGrain® - anchor the palette, applied across sweeping wall panelling, bespoke sliding doors and a custom boardroom table. Their tonal contrast introduces both richness and calm, celebrating the diversity of native timbers while establishing a layered, tactile environment. These elements are complemented by refined accents of Laminex Brushed Stainless Steel and Laminex Kashmir Granite, adding subtle tension and material contrast.
Gentle curves, bull-nosed joinery and seamless detailing push the boundaries of the Laminex range, demonstrating its flexibility, durability and depth in a high-use commercial setting. The result is a space that feels grounded yet expressive - designed to invite conversation, imagination and connection, while championing Australian-made materials and craftsmanship.
